Welcome

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome to a brand new school year!  The following is information to assist in the success of your child’s learning for the 2015-2016 school year. It is our shared responsibility as educators and parents to help each child achieve success through the development of self-esteem, social skills, self management and academic skills. The following expectations have been set forth in order to assist students in reaching their greatest potential. Specifically, the guidelines that have been created are designed to help students with their organizational skills and academic goals, as well as to build upon their ability to be independent learners. Parents/Guardians are asked to please take a moment to read over these expectations and review them with your child.

David Leeder Grade 6 Expectations - Class 6J

Student Responsibility: It is the responsibility of each student to be an active learner and challenge themselves to be the best they can be; to demonstrate respect for themselves and others and their property; come prepared to class with necessary learning materials; and participate actively in classroom activities.

Personal Supplies: Be prepared for class with your binder, dividers, lined paper, graph paper, pencil case with pens, pencils, eraser, ruler, coloured pencils, protractor, calculator, an independent reading novel and student agenda.

Lockers: All students are assigned a locker. Lockers will be shared. Students are permitted to go to their locker before school, before lunch, at the afternoon entry bell and after school. Other times must have the permission of your teacher and use a hall pass. It is the expectation that lockers will be cleaned out regularly by the students and that they are properly maintained.

Punctuality: Students should be punctual for class. If you take additional time, you must bring a late slip from the office. Parents will be contacted when students are continuously late.

Agendas: Students are reminded to use their agendas on a regular basis. It is the expectation that students bring their agendas to every class. Parents/Guardians are asked to periodically review for teacher notes and to keep up with students learning.
Classroom Maintenance: Each day, it is everyone’s responsibility to ensure classrooms are kept tidy. Students will help with general classroom organization. During lunch, all garbage must be placed in the garbage containers or recycling bins.
Food/Beverages: Water is permitted in the classroom. No gum is permitted in school at any time. Students are encouraged to bring healthy lunches and to avoid bringing in peanut related foods.
Classroom Entry: Students are not permitted to enter a classroom without a teacher present. Please line-up and wait to be let into the classroom.
Behaviour:  Our school has a Code of Conduct that applies to all members. Please review the Code of Conduct as outlined in the Student Planner. We shall spend some time during the first few days of school familiarizing ourselves with the code of conduct.
Parent/Guardian Responsibility: In order to ensure your child’s success, parents/guardians are encouraged to review their child’s agenda daily; assist your child with homework; sign all assignments and tests once assessment is returned; keep up-to-date on upcoming assignments, tests and events. Please visit ‘www.mrssahni.blogspot.ca’ to review daily homework and other reminders. Please encourage your child to spend quality time on their assignments. Daily homework shall be assigned to review taught concepts. Assignments to assess application of taught concepts are to be completed by the due date given.
Extra Help: Extra help is available for all students. Teachers will be available to help understand taught concepts, organize, or find materials for an assignment. Remedial assistance is available from 2:10-2:40p.m. or during lunch recess.
